Re: Item 9. Community Impact Statements are due for local convicted drug lord formerly headquartered in 1330 7th St NW (hoarding weapons and selling drugs within and around the building). Judge Reggie Walton will be sentencing Brown in Federal District Court on July 26. Prosecuting AUSA Ken Whitted has requested CISs to help justify keeping Brown off our streets and out of our community as long as possible which should also send a signal to other local drug dealers like those who've apparently recently taken over the brand new park on the 600 b/o N St NW.

Espey Brown, Jr., who is set for sentencing on July 26, 2012, pled guilty to Conspiracy to Distribute and Possess with the Intent to Distribute 28 grams or More of Cocaine Base, also known as crack (Count One), in violation of 21 U.S.C. §§ 841(a)(1), 841(b)(1)(B)(iii), and 846, and Using, Carrying, and Possessing a Firearm During a Drug Trafficking Offense (Count Two), in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 924(c)(1). Pursuant to Title 21, United States Code, Section 841(b)(1)(B), his drug offense (Count One) carries a penalty of not less than five years and not more than 40 years in custody, a fine not to exceed the greater of that authorized by Title 18 of the United States Code or $5,000,000, and a period of supervised release of at least four years. The firearms offense (Count Two) carries a minimum mandatory sentence of five years’ imprisonment and a maximum term of life in custody pursuant to 18 U.S.C. § 924(c)(1)(A)(i), and that any sentence imposed for this offense must run consecutively to any other term of imprisonment imposed on your client. Mr. Brown primarily sold drugs within and around 1330 7th Street, N.W., and he is taking responsibility for possessing and distributing at least 1 kilogram but less than 2.8 kilograms of cocaine base, also known as crack, and we expect Judge Walton will sentence him within a range of 160 to 211 months’ custody. Mr. Brown’s term of incarceration... should help relieve the 7th and O Street area – or the Shaw community – from any potential drug trafficking activities from their network for some time to come."
